CBL offers financial relief to round out league

Post by devaneyfan » Tue 26 Jul '16 5:58pm

The league office announced today that Fredericton and St. John's are the only teams without active ownership.

To help incentivize new ownership, and quickly fill the league, the league announced that it would allow one free roster cut for each of the two remaining open teams. Both teams have relatively high team salaries that will limit free agency options. St. John's is already over the league's salary cap, so the relief should be welcome.

The players who are cut will have their contracted salaries paid out in full by the league. The CBL players union voted earlier today to support the league office in this move.

The league is covering the salary of Manuel Aguilar who is being released by St. John's.
